In-Site: Evanston New Construction

Final Rendering

I’m really excited to share some information about my new projects in Evanston.  I am working with BKM Development Company- we are teaming up again after working together on the Farragut Houses.  The architect is Mayer Jeffers Gillespie and I am the lead project designer.  The project consists of 3 new construction single family homes- each 4500 sqft with 5 bedrooms and 4 baths.

1152 Leonard - Living

The building’s exterior is made of steel, cement board and Ipe accents.  An interior open staircase provides a sculptural detail and is open from the basement to the top floor.  Above the garage there is a finished loft that could function as an office, studio or apartment.  Interior flooring is wide plank white oak.  Ceilings are pitched in the master bedroom and fireplace designs in the master and living room are modern using an aged raw cedar.

1152 Leonard - Bedroom

As a seasoned interior designer I know the kitchen is the heart of the home and wanted to create a sleek modern design with a retro-vibe.

1152 Leonard - Kitchen

Kitchen hi-lights include:
-Full slab Neolith countertops and backsplash
-Kitchen is completely custom designed by Linc Thelen Design and built by Homethings
-Includes lots of storage including a large pantry and wine bar
-Cabinets are a textured laminate by Uniboard and work well with the barstools and decorative lighting

Linc Thelen’s Traverse On Exhibit at Florense:
300 W Ontario, Chicago IL 60654

Painting for over two decades, Linc Thelen’s style fuses classical training with a modern perspective. Thelen’s works consist of abstract paintings described as dream-like and esoteric layered with calming emotion- an attempt to deconstruct the form. Thelen received his BFA in painting from Northern Illinois University. Please visit for more information.

About Traverse
Linc Thelen’s new series “Traverse” is a study of lines and their intersections. By incorporating the fundamental use of light, texture and color he creates spontaneous emotion, which reflects the fluidity of life. The work represents real life metaphors relating to human relationships and the evolution of time.

I am honored to have participated in this year’s prestigious Lake Forest Showhouse with designer Joey Leicht in the Man Cave Bar and Bath.  Even though this room isn’t “Pretty in Pink”, this year’s showhouse was owned by director John Hughes. Located within the historic district of east Lake Forest, the home features the exquisite detail of architect Edwin Hill Clark.

I’m thrilled to be part of the Sophisticated Living family.  Check out my ad…

Hi Everyone-

It’s been a very exciting winter!  The church and farmhouse projects are coming along well.  Thanks so much for all your positive feedback on my IN-SITE column!  I was recently  awarded “Best Of Houzz”.

FullSizeRenderThank you WhiteHaus for featuring one of my kitchen projects in their 2015 calendar.

In addition I’ve had a few press placements including the prestigious style makers in Luxe Interiors + Design and HGTV.  Thanks so much for your continued support.

Recent Press:

Our Dining Room was featured in HGTV’s 2015 Trends Gallery! The editorial team looked at hundreds of design professionals and thousands of pictures to create this gallery. They picked the best forward-thinking design professionals to be a part of it. I am honored.

Houzz“Houzz provides homeowners with a 360 degree view of homebuilding, remodeling and design industry professionals, empowering them to engage the right people and products for their project,” said Liza Hausman, vice president of industry marketing for Houzz. “We’re delighted to recognize Linc Thelen among our “Best Of” professionals as judged by our community of homeowners and design enthusiasts who are actively remodeling and decorating their homes.”

One King’s Lane recently asked me “What is your Chair Crush?”

There are so many sharp chairs to choose from but can’t deny the Madison Leather Barrel Chair in Rouge is my favorite-This barrel chair is upholstered in chic, rich burgundy leather and trimmed in silvery nail heads with an antiqued finish. And the best part? Made in the USA.

In-SITE: Church Project, Construction and Finishes

We’ve made a lot of headway since we last shared progress photos.  With ceiling heights soaring at 25′, scaffolding is a must during construction.  Shown above is a view of the family room just after the fireplace was built out.  The ceiling was opened up to expose the scissor trusses and turned buckle details (photo below).

This is the view from the second floor overlooking the family room and the grand fireplace.  Cut-outs on the right of fireplace are for log storage. The fireplace is the focal point of the room and clad in stone slabs from TransCeramica.

Family Room and Kitchen

IMG_2554This is one of my favorite spots in the house.  Colleen’s office overlooks the entire living space from above.

IMG_2544This is the bell tower, a very vertical space with a 30′ ceiling height.  The room will have a glass floor.  We’re still unsure what this room will be used for.  So many possibilities!

IMG_2556 Stained glass windows will be the focal point of the kitchen.  Kitchen cabinetry is custom hickory, floors are white oak, counters are white quartzite from Caesar Stone.

In-SITE: Farmhouse Framing

photo 4

Our farmhouse is under construction! Framing began on July 5th, only a month from beginning framing the house was up. We set the floor trusses and then began framing the walls. Second floor trusses were craned in then we added exterior walls and sheathing. After all the walls were framed the roof went up and then the windows went in.

The site faces the golf course so views are just magnificent from the second floor. The house is nestled into the natural landscape with fully mature trees.  Stay tuned for our next post, we’ll be roughing in plumbing, hvac and electrical.
