Linc’s Ledger: March Madness

1st quarter is off to a great start and I wanted to fill you in on the latest happenings.  This year’s Pantone color of the year is actually two colors- Rose Quartz and Serenity.  Our friend and talented designer Brynn Olson appeared on Windy City Live to demonstrate how to integrate these colors into your home without breaking the bank.  Brynn brought one of my paintings into the studio (shown on stage left) Watch the story here.Screen Shot 2016-01-21 at 1.11.58 PM.png

In January we had the pleasure of participating in Architectural Artifacts- Another Door Opens where 30 designers and artists were asked to reimagine vintage doors for a philanthropic auction.  We are so pleased to have been part of raising $50,000 for Chicago House.

In February we were honored by HGTV as their designer of the month!  View my profile here.

The Prudential Building was one of the first skyscrapers built in Chicago after World War II. It had the highest roof in the city at the time. I’ll be displaying work this Spring at the Prudential Building’s lobby- stay tuned for more details.

Artemide Installation:

Founded in 1960 by Ernesto Gismondi, the Artemide Group is an Italian design icon and an international leader in the field of lighting. Aside from being responsible for producing some of the world’s most notable lights, the Tizio designed by Richard Sapper and the Tolomeo by Michele De Lucchi, Artemide is recognized as a design innovator who continually works with globally renowned architects and designers including; Sir Norman Foster; Ettore Sottsass; Enzo Mari; Karim Rashid and Mario Botta. Artemide lamps are featured in permanent museum collections including the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Museum of Modern Art in New York.

The pieces I created for Artemide are part of their permanent collection. The works draw inspiration from architecture, design and art.  They are a representation of lighting and design manifesting the painting process with a minimal approach.  The paintings are stretched with raw canvas not primed, graphite pencil, with white, black and red paint.

In-Site: Evanston New Construction

Final Rendering

I’m really excited to share some information about my new projects in Evanston.  I am working with BKM Development Company- we are teaming up again after working together on the Farragut Houses.  The architect is Mayer Jeffers Gillespie and I am the lead project designer.  The project consists of 3 new construction single family homes- each 4500 sqft with 5 bedrooms and 4 baths.

1152 Leonard - Living

The building’s exterior is made of steel, cement board and Ipe accents.  An interior open staircase provides a sculptural detail and is open from the basement to the top floor.  Above the garage there is a finished loft that could function as an office, studio or apartment.  Interior flooring is wide plank white oak.  Ceilings are pitched in the master bedroom and fireplace designs in the master and living room are modern using an aged raw cedar.

1152 Leonard - Bedroom

As a seasoned interior designer I know the kitchen is the heart of the home and wanted to create a sleek modern design with a retro-vibe.

1152 Leonard - Kitchen

Kitchen hi-lights include:
-Full slab Neolith countertops and backsplash
-Kitchen is completely custom designed by Linc Thelen Design and built by Homethings
-Includes lots of storage including a large pantry and wine bar
-Cabinets are a textured laminate by Uniboard and work well with the barstools and decorative lighting

Linc Thelen’s Traverse On Exhibit at Florense:
300 W Ontario, Chicago IL 60654

Painting for over two decades, Linc Thelen’s style fuses classical training with a modern perspective. Thelen’s works consist of abstract paintings described as dream-like and esoteric layered with calming emotion- an attempt to deconstruct the form. Thelen received his BFA in painting from Northern Illinois University. Please visit for more information.

About Traverse
Linc Thelen’s new series “Traverse” is a study of lines and their intersections. By incorporating the fundamental use of light, texture and color he creates spontaneous emotion, which reflects the fluidity of life. The work represents real life metaphors relating to human relationships and the evolution of time.

I am honored to have participated in this year’s prestigious Lake Forest Showhouse with designer Joey Leicht in the Man Cave Bar and Bath.  Even though this room isn’t “Pretty in Pink”, this year’s showhouse was owned by director John Hughes. Located within the historic district of east Lake Forest, the home features the exquisite detail of architect Edwin Hill Clark.
