This month’s post is an introduction to one of my dream projects – a church conversion to a single family home. I have teamed up with my good friend and architect Elissa Scrafano. Over the past year we’ve created a design that will evolve into a stunning piece of architecture once completed. This would not be possible without having imaginative clients that value innovative design.
This church was built in the early 1900’s . The architecture offers unique possibilities that are not common in traditional homes:
-Vaulted ceilings create expansive space and a sense of awe.
– Large arched stained glass windows flood the space with natural light.
– Exposed brick provides texture, richness and character.
Although we will take cues from the existing functionality of the site, we plan to create unexpected elements and pairings fit for this young urban family. Below are some design details we are using as inspiration for the project. As you can see, there is a juxtaposition between the rustic and refined. We’ll be blogging and photo documenting the progress of the project as it develops. Hope you enjoy the ride!
