In-Site: Evanston New Construction

Final Rendering

I’m really excited to share some information about my new projects in Evanston.  I am working with BKM Development Company- we are teaming up again after working together on the Farragut Houses.  The architect is Mayer Jeffers Gillespie and I am the lead project designer.  The project consists of 3 new construction single family homes- each 4500 sqft with 5 bedrooms and 4 baths.

1152 Leonard - Living

The building’s exterior is made of steel, cement board and Ipe accents.  An interior open staircase provides a sculptural detail and is open from the basement to the top floor.  Above the garage there is a finished loft that could function as an office, studio or apartment.  Interior flooring is wide plank white oak.  Ceilings are pitched in the master bedroom and fireplace designs in the master and living room are modern using an aged raw cedar.

As a seasoned interior designer I know the kitchen is the heart of the home and wanted to create a sleek modern design with a retro-vibe.

Kitchen hi-lights include:
-Full slab Neolith countertops and backsplash
-Kitchen is completely custom designed by Linc Thelen Design and built by Homethings
-Includes lots of storage including a large pantry and wine bar
-Cabinets are a textured laminate by Uniboard and work well with the barstools and decorative lighting

LINC THELEN:
Painting for over two decades, Linc Thelen’s style fuses classical training with a modern perspective. Thelen’s works consist of abstract paintings described as dream-like and esoteric layered with calming emotion- an attempt to deconstruct the form. Thelen received his BFA in painting from Northern Illinois University. Please visit www.lincthelenart.com for more information.

About Traverse
Linc Thelen’s new series “Traverse” is a study of lines and their intersections. By incorporating the fundamental use of light, texture and color he creates spontaneous emotion, which reflects the fluidity of life. The work represents real life metaphors relating to human relationships and the evolution of time.

One King’s Lane recently asked me “What is your Chair Crush?”

There are so many sharp chairs to choose from but can’t deny the Madison Leather Barrel Chair in Rouge is my favorite-This barrel chair is upholstered in chic, rich burgundy leather and trimmed in silvery nail heads with an antiqued finish. And the best part? Made in the USA.

Bold Design and Cool Patterns

This month’s post is about implementing bold design and cool patterns.  As a Chicago Interior Designer and artist I have been fortunate enough to have clients who allow me to be creative and do what I love.  Special thanks to Pam from Duralee, Wanye from Kravet, Lesile from Area International and Ninfa from Schumacher for their time and dedication to creating products that truly inspire.

Below are some of my favorite projects which incorporate bold colors and patterns.  Whether it be a splash of color with art, furniture, accessories, wallpaper, rug or a funky upholstery fabric, going bold has never been more fun!

Jarmel

In this project I combined yellow, blue and red with furniture, lighting and accessories to make this vignette really pop. The subtle pattern in the chest and shape of the mirror turns an ordinary hallway foyer into a fun and stylish place- setting the overall tone for the home.

feigley

Every baby needs a stylish “crib”. The baby’s room I designed for my client is hip and cool with built ins for storage, a touch of green and a great patterned wallpaper. Furniture is light and bright, with one statement piece. No baby should be without a classic Eames rocking chair.

living rm 2

This living room I designed is clean-lined and modern. I added a punch of color with throw pillows. It’s easy to change the palette out with the seasons. A striped painting I created titled “Architect Series #3”, hangs on the wall and gives this room it’s bold charm.

This dining room I recently completed includes:
-Hi-impact artwork
-Elegant charcoal grasscloth wallcovering
-Great accessories that bring in texture and interesting shapes
-Unique light fixture from Arteriors Home
-Comfortable Seating
-The dining room table was designed to fit the exact dimensions of the space
-Custom console table
-Great trim adds the finishing touches to the room, wainscoting, crown and window trim
Bold patterns were used on the upholstery and the large scale painting I created.

Never know what to do with your collection of coffee table books? Build a wood rail for display and add a museum quality to the space. Pattern and color can come from unexpected places.

A colorful den for teenagers is splashed with bold color and pattern with artwork, a geometric rug, accents of pink pillows and window shades and pop of blue, red and green.
