DESIGN PROJECT FEATURED IN INTERIORS CHICAGO
It was a huge honor to have one of my design projects featured in Interiors Chicago. Thank you to the writer, Barri Leiner Grant for her eloquence and to Diana Bitting for publishing one of my favorite projects.
REVISION HOME
On February 7th Revision Home featured “CURATED” where three talented designers worked their magic with the store’s new inventory. Aimee Wertepny, Sean Cowan and Jennie Bishop were the celebrated designers who curated room scenes and incorporated my artwork. It was such an honor for one of my paintings to be featured in Interiors Chicago as part of Jennie Bishop’s vignette featured this past winter. Some of my work is now available at Revision Home’s online store.

ADVERSITY, SOLO SHOW
Over 250 guests gathering for the opening of my recent show “Adversity” on April 19th at the Zhou B Art Center. Guests enjoyed cocktails from the Zhou B Café & Art Lounge while previewing my recent work. The collection featured large oils on canvas, the largest measuring 133″ x 96″.
“While the idea that art need not conform to a traditional aesthetic in order to accomplish its goals is hardly revolutionary, Thelen’s choice to apply abstract techniques to well-known classical paintings emphasizes this idea in a singularly vivid and thought-provoking manner. By applying expressive abstract techniques to canonical works of art such as the “Raft of the Medusa,” Thelen preserves and even heightens the emotion and intensity the originals convey. Thelen is a poet in oil paint. His carefully selected color schemes and bold brushstrokes reach beyond the physical reality of the images, accessing the fervor beneath the form.” -Emma Collins, Chicago Weekly
“Mr. Thelen’s adaptation of the Raft of the Medusa, vaguely reminiscent of Géricault’s 1819 composition, illustrates the survivors of the wreck of the French naval frigate, Méduse, off the coast of North Africa. After enduring 13 days upon a hurriedly constructed raft, all but 15 of the 147 crew perished. In Mr. Thelen’s version loose, soft gestural marks create ghostlike impressions of those who have given up hope and approach death. The painting is a haunting glimpse of what is to be on the raft, to have lost everything. Indicated by stronger gestural marks, the survivors who might yet be rescued speak of hope amid despair.” -Mary A. Osborne, examiner.com

JEAN DE MERRY DINNER WITH ELLE DECOR’S MICHAEL BOODRO
On June 6th I was invited to an intimate dinner hosted by Jean de Merry with the Editor of Elle Decor at the Chicago Arts Club. The dinner brought together top designers and artisans from LA, Chicago and New York.
Every summer during Neocon, the worlds largest international trade fair, Morlen Sinoway Atelier hosts the Guerrilla Truck Show. The event serves as a platform for creatives of all types to showcase their work in a temporary gallery space within the back of a truck. Over the years, the event has blossomed from 13 trucks exhibiting to over 60 trucks. June 10th marked the 9th annual show and it was my pleasure to participate. Below are some photos of my exhibit and the event.
I just completed several new design projects and I’m looking forward to sharing them with you in upcoming posts! -Linc
